Walking It Out

Too often I have lived like the Incarnation never happened. Heaven coming to Earth, establishing in the person of Jesus, the Kingdom of God on Earth, victorious over sin and death. When Mary assented to God at the Annunciation, as Psalm 85 says, “steadfast love and faithfulness have met”. The Incarnation of Jesus into the womb of Mary began the tearing of the veil that separates us from Him. Over the past 2-3 weeks, our pastor has made the point that Christmas has already happened; it is a historical fact. We celebrate a remembrance of Christ’s coming in humility on Dec. 25th, while we now look forward to the second coming of Our Lord in glory. His kingdom HAS been established on Earth – that work is done! God has been working with you to bring YOU to fulfillment, the fulfillment of the vision that Christ has established for you individually. All you have to do is walk it out.
My warrior brother Pat talks about “walking it out”. Do you walk it out, knowing the truth that the Kingdom of God is at hand, that Christ, through your baptism, has established the Kingdom of God in you? Or do you worry about what your next step in life will be? School, work, family decisions, buying this or that, going here or there? I do.
“To live is Christ, to die is gain” Philippians 1:21. St. Paul knew and lived the reality that the Incarnation happened and the Kingdom of God was indeed at hand. His life was life in Christ--whatever that entailed, and when that was over, he knew he was gaining union with Him in Heaven. Man, I want to live that way. I can’t do it on my own, and you can’t either. The Holy Spirit is the way. Jesus promised in John 16:13 that “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth…” Daily ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and guide you in fulfilling the call that God has already established for you. The Holy Spirit will help you “Walk it out”. Get moving.
