The Call to Duty (C2D) Story
C2D was started by Catholic husbands and fathers who recognize the battle for the soul of men. They are warriors in differing ways – some are former military, some are teachers, engineers and doctors, some are salesman – they are different men but they are bonded by a dedication to daily prayer, intentional fraternity, and commitment to following Jesus and growing in virtue. The goal is Heaven; the time is now; the battle is on.
Consider original man, Adam, in the garden: Protect, defend, cultivate, co-operate, govern, name. He has authority. He is with Eve – she is from his side – his equal in dignity. She brings life – he defends and protects it. She is a key – the life giver.
Sin and Shame enters in; Adam was there but didn’t defend Eve. When the life-giver was attacked …death followed.
What is a man? He is a protector and defender. He is a co-operator with the woman, the life-giver.
But what does man “look” like? What does he “act” like? Is he a loud, tough, man that’s always in the gym? Is he a warrior screaming battle cries on the battlefield? Maybe, maybe not. It’s not the look, it’s not the clothing, it’s not the cool tactical gear.
Let’s be clear: it’s about the Cross and it’s about growing in Virtue.
Why C2D?
The Culture of Death continues to dominate the battlefield of our society with tactics, information, images, messaging, media and entertainment that are successfully killing the life of authentic manhood. Men are seemingly unaware that this battle exists. They are unprepared at best, and completely oblivious at worst. Men were designed for battle. The battle is real; the call is urgent.
Why a Military-Themed weekend?
Many men identify with the soldier – they love military movies and entertainment – they are the primary consumers of military-themed video games. They have been seduced into participating and consuming “virtual warfare”. A battle is currently being waged in our society, has been waged, and will continue to be waged until the end of time – the battle for individual souls. God, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, has won this battle, but the man’s enemies of The World, The Flesh, and The Devil continue to deceive souls into choosing life in Hell instead of the life of eternal love with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The military theme of the CTD weekend is a METAPHOR for the REAL battle – the spiritual battle for the individual soul of the man. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE ABOUT: Reaching men with the message of “Spiritual Warfare” and preparing men for “Spiritual Combat.” You are either currently engaged in the battle (and are winning/losing), or you are unaware that a battle is ongoing, and you are losing. The battle is on as we speak. This is reality.
